I first discovered The Coolies through PYLON and DB records.
Their debut Dig..? is made up of mostly Simon and Garfunkel covers, playfully embracing and mocking the band. The tongue and cheek vibes of the record are reminiscent
of bands like TOY DOLLS, and DEAD MILKMEN but with more new wave
sensibility. There’s
some similarity to PYLON but The Coolies execute things more humorously with a touch of folk and country. The
back cover features a short Q and A, giving you a feel for what
your in for. Some tracks skip a little and I've left out 'El Condor Pasa' due it not coming out right; I’ll try to replace the link once I get
a new needle. Highlight tracks include ‘Homeward Bound’ and ‘The Only Living
Boy In New York’. hg
